Is it a glitch or a genuine change in the portal? Does anyone else see this?MSCA_SOC_2019 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 2:45 pmStill there for me! 144/153, it's becoming closer.mscaif2021 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 2:37 pmThe 'informed date' is no longer there! it doesn't say the 14th of March anymore
But I strongly believe we will have news on Monday morning.

Hope I am not wrong

Both from personal experience and knowing from other past MSCA fellows that I talk to, I confirm that having completed an MSCA does not guarantee neither a permanent position in the academia, nor another post-doc. It is highly unlikely to get the job you want unless your skills match exactly what they are looking for. I also think that the past years post-doc positions are generally really competitive. But you have more chances of getting a first post-doc than getting a second. Also flipping expertise is very hard, that's why a lot of people (including past MSCA fellows) quit research altogether after a few years when their subject is not hot anymore.pepper wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 11:47 amI am curious whether winning this fellowship means one has an excellent chance to get a faculty job / permanent position in the universities/ companies where the fellow conducts his research project? I feel the MSCA PF's are bringing a lot of money to them.
Is that correct??
Second-time applicant here... I would like to hear everyone's thoughts.
A second problem with MSCA fellows is interdisciplinarity. The jobs usually advertised require highly expertised people, and MSCA fellows are usually in-between.
I am not sure about getting your own funding, but I believe the ERC story in the previous posts.
Also, someone mentioned previously that 'they cannot wait to be in a position of less stress in their career'. I don't think this ever happens, unless you can get a permanent lectureship position in a less research intensive environment.
Overall, going back to the subject, I think that past MSCA fellows are kind of stack in a vicious cycle of funding applications, unless they are lucky enough to be doing something that is on the rise now and will be on demand for many years to come.
Also, this situation is less painful when you enjoy writing funding applications and you're into the game of following the trends independently.

The thread seems eerily quiet today. The calm before the storm?
