846xxx Still evaluation.

That said, there was someone last year that was in evaluation still when he got his email that he got it! So I don't think we should worry too terribly much about this. There may be an association this year but there could just as easily not be an association.

Good luck everyone! At least it's moving!

I have been working outside academia since my last postdoc ended in August; actually I’m working at my country’s national funding agency, so I understand a bit the long wait we have for the results: so much goes on to make sure everything is coordinated and checked a hundred times behind the scenes before applicants receive any word. Don’t get me wrong, this job is great and pays well, but it is not where the heart lies, so to speak. The other offer that I now have is in my field (but non-academic), but much more intense regarding hours to put in, etc.

I agree with a lot that Bren says: academia, for all its flaws, gives you a HUGE amount of freedom to plan your own work, time, even thoughts and ideas. Often you get to travel a lot and meet interesting people. Such freedom is very rare outside academia, although the pay and hours tend to be better outside.

Bottom line: I like my current job and it’s relatively easy and no work whatsoever outside office hours. But I would give it up in a flash to do the MSCA. The other job I have just been offered? That would be a tough call whether to reject that :-/

Of course he is, theres a lot to think about. This may be an unpopular view on this forum, and in academia more generally, but from my experience academic jobs are pretty handy compared to many non-academic jobs. I hear academics complaining about work-life balance, not being paid enough, marking papers etc. However, its a walk in the park compared to many non-academic jobs, and you get to work on topics that you often genuinely love, and you get to work in the civilized polite middle class world of the university. Its a piece of cake to be honest. I'm 43, I've been worked full time in academia for 4 years now, and its by far the easiest work I've ever had. I wont say its the most enjoyable because I loved some of my previous jobs, but its pretty cool some of the time.

I have a non-academic job waiting for me, its a full 10k above the MCSA in salary terms, but its an on-the-job 39 hour pw management position of a centre for the homeless and addicted with a pretty big staff team to manage, hard work indeed! MCSA is less money, flexible hours, much much easier work, and I get to carry out a research project I designed myself. I honestly cant say if I will accept MCSA if I get it, I will wait for results and decide then,

You are joking right?
You got an offer from outside academia and you are still thinking about it?

Same here, job offer outside academia (but in my field), and salary negotiations on Friday... it would be so much better to know MSCA result before then! In the case that I would get the MSCA (not likely), I might reject the offer and continue in current job until start of MSCA, or I could postpone start of MSCA and do the job for a shorter period (it’s a great job)...
The wait is so frustrating :?
