Starting from your home country (or whichever country you are presently in) should not be an issue. Just ask your contact person at the host institute.

I don't see why the EC should have a problem with it, or why they are even involved in this decision. Your work contract is between your HI and you. It's only your HI that has to agree.

My HI offered me the possibility of starting remotely. However, I was always planning on a late starting date, so it (hopefully) is not relevant for me.

Knowing that your host institution offered you the possibility of starting the project remotely is conforting for me.

Did your host institution give you details about taxation in the case of starting of the project remotely? Should I pay taxes in the country where the host institution is located or in my home country?

As far as know beneficiary (host institute, in your main contractor) country taxation rule is applied. EC send found to beneficiary and beneficiary pay your salary after tax cutting subject to country tax regulation. It is not important where do you work for your research. Usually 30-40% tax can be charged.

I don’t know if this is true. For example if you were to start your project with a host institute based in the EU but were currently located in the US, the US would absolutely tax your income. If you live in California, you pay state tax in California regardless of where that money comes from for example. Definitely check with your host institutions and national contact points for clarification folks.

I might be wrong, but it also depends if you are employed as a postdoctoral fellow or research fellow. In the first case you get more money, in the second you have a salary and you pay taxes & co in the country of the host institution like everyone else. It all depends on how much time you spent or were employed in that respective county.

Hey guys,

just to be 100% sure, my bar is gone full blue and just "paid" is missing, it says it will be payed before my starting date (next year).
I have received the email with the guide to the implementation. so that's it?

My bar is blue too, with just the “paid” circle left empty. It’s been like that for 42 days though and the progress bar says 42/52. Anyone else know when the EC pays out?

Hi everyone!
Is there anyone that has/had experience on whether or not the mobility allowance is taxed in the case of a MSCA-IF with host institution in Belgium?

I hope you find your answer. My host has been trying to find out the situation for taxation of these extra allowances in Ireland to absolutely no avail. Nobody could give us a straight answer. We are proceeding as if everything is taxed as regular salary just to be cautious.
