some conversation would help distract though 8-) ...

I cannot get over the number of applicants. and its the same at higher levels too. In France at the CNRS they have 100+ candidates competing for 6 researcher positions in multiple sections ...academia is truly a depressing and daunting endeavour....

Yes.. Competition for research positions is fierce!. The RTO that I work for offered me a permanent position after they got to know about my MSCA application together with a fancy university in the UK. It is a very hard to decide!!

Yes.. Competition for research positions is fierce!. The RTO that I work for offered me a permanent position after they got to know about my MSCA application together with a fancy university in the UK. It is a very hard to decide!!

personally I want this grant to put me on the path of a permanent position..... some day ....so I would choose that without a thought... but I would say, you'll probably know what's right for you when/if both options are real and sitting before you.

I hope all of us will get this fellowship! But I am convinced that this will not solve the main problem...there are too few permanent positions in academia!! Generally, either you get a tenure-track position when you are relatively young or you stay postdoc for some years till you are too old to get a permanent position.. Why do not open constantly permanent positions as postdoc? I guess the research will benefit a lot...
