Though it is certainly not the right reason to decide to leave academia based on something that has such as high lottery factor.
As several people here said, it's not uncommon to find candidates that failed MSCA and got the ERC; that says everything.
I hope you'll feel better soon, and start making ambitious projects again.
Don't let three anonymous (perhaps angry and/or non-expert) reviewers stop you.
