Hi all,

I've been trying for the MC long enough to post my story, I'm sure it has some parts that sound familiar to the experience of others.
I originally wrote this proposal in 2017 and have submitted it twice to the Veni funding scheme under the NWO (Netherlands), and four times to Horizon 2020/Marie Curie. I was successful this time around with Marie Curie with 95.2% in Social Sciences. My first submission to MC in 2017, through Leiden University, was done with zero input from my supervisor and received 78%. The second time around I re-applied with changes according to the reviewers, again with zero supervisor input, and received 85% for a seal of excellence. Scores were 4.5, 4.3, and 3.8 if I recall. I took this application, implementing reviewer suggestions, and applied to the Veni scheme in NL, and made it to the final round. The third MC attempt was through a new university, and my new supervisor-to-be was much more helpful (easy to say coming from zero help prior). This resulted in a lower score, 82 or 83%, with scores of 4, 4.2, and 4.2 thereabouts. Despite this, the third iteration of the proposal was, in the opinion of everyone I knew that had an opinion, a much better iteration from the second proposal. I was convinced at this point that the review process was essentially a roll of the dice, all things being equal for decent proposals. I took this version and re-submitted to the Veni scheme a second time, and didn't even pass the pre-proposal stage. Needless to say at this point, in early 2020, I was almost done with academia and about to move on.
I re-submitted to MC (4th time) with small changes to my 3rd proposal, and received 95.2%, enough to receive funding.
While it's great to feel good about having received funding for your proposal, don't take it upon yourself to feel that it was 100% deserved. You, along with me, won a dice roll with your reviewers.

Hi all, Thanks for this great informative forum and the moral support! I am an unsuccessful GF applicant that is planning to reapply next year!

Does anyone know whether it is still possible to have a UK host in the next MSCA-IF call? Thanks!

Hi. This year there is a record application on MSCA-IF and EU should increase the budget of MSCA-IF grants. Otherwise, the agressive competition would reach incredible points.
MSCA-IF not be a real lottery

It is, the U.K. is continuing to pay into the Horizon scheme despite Brexit.

Initially, I was in reserve list of rank-12 in RI-panel. Please, let me know if there is any hope for me?

Hello, I have been following the forum for months and it has provided some needed support during the months of waiting. First of all, congratulations to everybody who received the funding, all the best with your projects! My case is the following: I applied to the CAR panel but apparently, my application did not comply with the eligibility criteria and it was transferred to the standard panel. I noticed this by chance, I was not notified prior to the publication of the results. Judging by the cutoff scores, I would have received the funding if I had remained in the CAR panel. I am wondering whether I should ask for a review of the eligibility check. On one hand, I want to try. On the other, I know it's not worth it and nothing will change. :) I guess my question is does anybody have direct experience with the appeal process? Or have you heard about anyone who was succcessful with reviews of eligibility? Thanks in advance!

Yes, that's a good point, I was not specific. I am not in industry, but I am not in academia either. I work for an NGO. This is why I applied to the CAR panel. Did your acquaintance receive a positive reply or is she still waiting?
