Collaborations during MSCA IF

Post by bose93 » Mon May 10, 2021 10:36 am

Hi all,

I started my MSCA Individual Fellowship last month, but I have a question about collaborations. I know there is a clause in the contract saying that researchers must work exclusively for the action, but what does this mean in practice? I am hoping to apply for a small grant with a colleague to conduct a project next year. I will be working on the project in my own time, as in I will work on my MSCA IF full time, and the additional project will be conducted during evenings/weekends (such is academia, hey). I also won't be costing my time into the grant proposal, so I won't be being paid for any other work.

However, the clause still concerns me. Does anyone have any experience/insight into this? It seems to me counterintuitive that a Fellowship that is meant to help you develop your career would prevent researchers from collaborating for 2 years, given that these collaborations will be essential to our ongoing academic careers.

Thanks in advance for your help!
