Did you check the magic link? Are we all in ranking or someone is still in submission/evaluation?
I'm still in evaluation. Trying to believe that this status means nothing 😔

There should be plenty of Spanish people around here, myself included. Happy to talk with you if you need anything (and I'm sure your supervisor/manager would help you too).

In general in Spain you should not worry about money. Although Madrid can be quite expensive (comparing it with other Spanish cities), compared to other european capitals it is cheap. With a MSCA you would comfortably live in Spain or Europe and probably save some money.

Regarding 1), it is added to your salary (I think). Not quite sure. I know EMBO does pay you for your plane tickets.

Good luck everyone!

I am wondering you already knew your results :) also you comes under NCP Spain. If you work for 2 years and paying that percent as tax, you are eligible to enjoy PARO (unemployment benefits) for 8 months after you finish your contact. They will pay you 70 % of your net salary for 8 months. I am not sure if there is a maximum amount they can pay as PARO..each university more or less cut from the salary the tax amount. If some university took less , in the end you have to pay to the government at end of each financial year. (It's called declarcion renta, I think the Spanish word). Anyway you have to apply for ViSA as an investigator, it's a new category they created. But you have to confirm about the VISA category best suits for your contract !!!

I have some practical questions regarding this fellowship, maybe you guys can help me:
1) the mobility allowance for us to move to the country is given upon arrival to that country (as some kind of reimbursement) or they actually pay up so one can buy plane tickets and stuff?
2) in my home country, fellowships are not taxed, but I heard they are in Spain, is it directly deducted from the monthly payment? If so, does anybody have any idea how much one gets in hand? I've heard someone saying the taxation gets close to 40%, if so, this fellowship is not as competitive (money-wise) as they led us to believe, right?
3) As I've never been to Europe, how expensive is it to live in Madrid?
Thanks for the info!
And honestly, I don't know the results, I was going crazy last week, contacted both NPC and host, and both told me to chill out, don't bother them, and wait till the 14th. I am genuinely trying to do a positive thinking exercise, wondering how life would be in Spain. That's all.

I'm still in ranking but "proposal":true,"finished":false...
seems like the magic link doesn't function properly everywhere, my attempts went in vain and it took me to some EU portal!

on a different note, @Cr@zyChem in case you got tired of movies and/or need new distractions, do you mind continuing with the sheet?
I think after your last-time update, there are a few more ppl adding the info.

What about having the host institution in France? How is a postdoc life in France?
I am also going to France (if funded).
As far as I know, the normal postdoc salary (not MSCA fellow) in France is not very competitive (after-tax a lightly more than 2k EUROs), scaled to your working experience ofc. But even junior PIs (with a tenure position) won't earn much more than a postdoc. So, if talking about equality, France is doing good.

Sure thing! I gotta some work to send over in the next couple hour, but after that I'll update the sheet. I'll also include the data from peers in evaluation.
I'd like also to ask everybody, after we get the results, to go back to your original post with this info, and add your results and stats. Later I'll update the sheet to be useful for next year.

One thought that just came to my mind, how many people have NOT currently moved to your host institution? Because I am already working with my proposed supervisor/manager on a different project. In that way, I've also been allowed to put some prelim. data in the proposal, which I've heard is a positive thing. But I was wondering how many people have not moved to the host country already, probably most of you?

Same University, different Department and Supervisor. I heard so many different theories about it, that I decided to think what was best for me
