MSCA-IF awardees in 2019 and academics networking
Hi all! This is a new thread for the MSCA-IF recipients and interested academics. Every contribution or question is welcomed, and that would be awesome if some former recipients could share their experience. Kudos to all the successful applicants! And sorry for the less lucky ones, but hopefully we can still support and help each other's.
Also, we were so many sharing our anxiety, joy or anger on the 2018 Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (H2020-MSCA-IF-2018) great thread (thanks CountZ!) that it would be a shame to not exploit this big gathering of young and motivated researcher to template international and/or interdisciplinary ties. That can only render our research even more exciting, successful at the MSCA-IF or not.
I haven't started a thread since a caramail forum in the 90s, so please feel free to complete this post, I am a bit rusted...
I start presenting myself briefly. I got an MSCA-IF in LIF panel, and I will be moving from Canada to France this summer. I am specialized in mass spectrometry, and very open to future collaborations in cancer biology and infectious diseases. For my project, I would be thrilled to team up with talented people in 3D networks modeling.
Regarding the MSCA-IF progress, does anyone know if being common-in-law (Canadian legal status equivalent to marriage) is sufficient to claim the family allowance?
Thanks for your participation in this thread, and do not hesitate to register and post your thoughts! (or best jokes...)

Great idea on the thread, and congrats on your fellowship. Are you from French-Speaking Canada?Turpentine wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 6:05 amRegarding the MSCA-IF progress, does anyone know if being common-in-law (Canadian legal status equivalent to marriage) is sufficient to claim the family allowance?

I'd assume the common-in-law would suffice, but you'd have to be married from the time of the application (2018) and have ticked the box on the A form so your project budget includes it.

Thanks for your reply! I will try to confirm that with officials and post their reply here. We have this status since 2011, and I ticked the box. We'll see I am in Toronto, but I'm french from France. What about you?

Do former fellows could kindly give us some info on the take-home salary of an MSCA-IF in their different countries? That would be very helpful to make some plan on e.g. what amount we can dedicate to rent a place. I can't find clear info on that on internet Thanks a lot!!!
Re: MSCA-IF awardees in 2019 and academics networking
Hi all,
I got an MSCA-IF in ENG panel, I will also move to France but I will delay the starting date to April 2020. The reason is that I have accepted Postdoc position in the UK starting from March (and I am ready to move after many efforts of applying for a visa and also it is super expensive).
I have just finished my PhD in Italy, and I have been unpaid since last December, so I must start working and getting a salary as soon as possible. The process of grant assignment and immigration for me to work in France can take several months.
I am also interested in knowing the net salary of MSCA IF in France

Hi, thanks Turpentine for opening this 2019 thread.
I am also hesitating on the start date. I have just begun to realize that I have won the academic lottery!
Concerning the grant paperwork, do we have to do things ourselves or is it to the university to fill out all the paperwork by the deadline, which is 2 or 3 weeks no?
I will be moving from France to Austria and I am a philosopher of science working on scientific practices. Your projects sound interesting and I hope to collaborate with scientists working with models and computer simulations during the fellowship!

Hi All!
I've got the fellowship in the SOC panel, and I'll move back to Italy after a postdoc in the US. I'll be working on the neural mechanisms supporting perception in humans
I'm actually very curious as well to know what kind of salary I should expect, is there anyone with some info on net salaries?
